What clothes should I wear? ››
You will be outside for about 3 hours, so should dress accordingly. Early mornings can be cool in summer and very cold in winter. You are advised to wear jeans or trousers (not white), and trainers or flat shoes (you will take off and probably land in a field). For winter you definitely need hat, scarf, gloves or mittens, warm coat or jacket, thick socks and leggings if possible.
What should I take with me? ››
Your camera. Your payment (if you have not already paid).
Where does the balloon take off from? ››
The best balloon companies can adjust their take off location to suit the direction of the wind, so the best answer is that you will take off in Cappadocia.
Where does the balloon fly? ››
Because balloons go with the wind, every flight is different. However all balloons fly over portions of Goreme National Park and the Rock Sights of Cappadocia as in UNESCO’s World Heritage List.
Will I see the sunrise from the balloon? ››
All balloon flights take place in the early morning. Balloons aim to be in the air around sunrise flight, although sometimes may have to take off a little later due to weather conditions. Also, in the busiest season when the sunrise flights are full you may be offered a "second take off" flight, and this will start some time after the sunrise flights take off.
How high will the balloon go? ››
The balloon can rise up to 3,000 feet and can go down to just above the tree tops and follow a valley. All is dependent on the wind.
When will I know if a flight is cancelled? ››
Sometimes this is clear from weather forecasts the day before, sometimes it becomes clear on the morning itself, and on certain days it can be a last minute decision. You usually know either before you go to bed or when you wake up, as your hotel will be notified of any changes when they are known.
Who has the power to stop balloon flights? ››
The Turkish Civil Aviation Authority’s local representatives say "Yes" or "No" and their decision is strictly final and applies to all balloon companies.
The factor that causes most cancellations is the wind, which means in Spring, Autumn and Winter you are more at risk of having your flight cancelled.
If my flight is cancelled, can I fly the next morning? ››
If you are available to fly the next morning we will let the balloon company know. If the flights are full for the next morning (at the busiest times this may be the case) then we will prioritize you for a late cancellation place.
If my flight is cancelled do I get a refund? ››
If your flight is cancelled due to the weather and you are unable to fly on any other morning you will not pay. If you have already paid, any monies will be refunded (in cash if you paid cash or via your credit card if that is how you paid).
How long is the flight? ››
All flight times are approximate. At the end of the flight the pilot has to spot a safe landing area; this is far more important than a few minutes more or less on the flight time. All companies reserve the right to land early should unusual weather conditions or other safety hazard arise.
The standard flight when booking with us is 1 hour (we do not work with the 45 or 50 minute flights). The deluxe flight is 90 minutes.
Is there a "champagne" celebration? ››
Yes, the companies we work with all hold the traditional "champagne" celebration and flight certificate or medallion or flight medal presentation on landing.
Can children fly? ››
Children 6 years and over can fly. Children under 6 years are not allowed to fly for safety reasons. Children under 12 years can fly for half price.
Can I fly if I’m pregnant? ››
The health and safety of your future baby is paramount. If you are pregnant you are not allowed to fly; however you can accompany your partner and watch from the ground (for free). Please let us know so that we can make this special arrangement for you. If you learn you are pregnant after making your booking, you must let us know immediately you hear the good news, or you may be responsible for late cancellation fees.
What time will I be picked up? ››
The exact pickup time will be known the evening before and you can learn from your hotel reception. It will be in the early hours of the morning. The exact time varies throughout the year because sunrise time changes.
What time will I get back to my hotel? ››
You will be away from your hotel for roughly 2½ to 3 hours (a bit more for the deluxe flight). You will be back at your hotel in time for breakfast and any tour plans you may have for the day.
My partner is scared of heights, but I want to fly. ››
Not a problem. Why don’t you fly in the balloon and your partner accompany the ground crew (for free)? That way you can both have an adventurous time. You will be picked up from the hotel together, and when you start to fly your partner can take photos from below before accompanying the ground crew to the landing site. Please let us know beforehand so we can make this special arrangement for you.
I suffer from motion sickness. Do I need my pills? ››
Take off is smooth and the flight is smooth. Most landings are also smooth. The people I have known with motion sickness have told me that the tablets were not necessary.
